Vax the Northwest! Mass Vaccination on Sunday, January 23rd (11–7pm) at York University’s Aviva Centre

The City of Toronto is hosting a mass vaccination clinic at the Aviva Centre at York on January 23rd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. More information on booking appointments online or by phone will be available in the coming days. Community health partners and ambassadors will also be reaching out directly to members of the community to help book appointments.

The Vax the Northwest team is distributing translated information in languages including Spanish, Italian, Vietnamese, Tagalog and Russian to the community to promote the event, remove barriers to vaccination and encourage people to get vaccinated. Team Toronto is also reaching out to Black, newcomer and undocumented populations in neighbourhoods close to York University through community agencies and established COVID-19 Vaccine Engagement Teams and ambassadors.

More information about vaccination options in Northwest Toronto neighbourhoods and across the city is available on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated

Please Fill Out the Winter Return Survey!

In October 2021, York University announced its plan to return to in-person teaching for the Winter 2022 term. Members of CUPE 3903 had communicated deep concerns about this plan even before the Omicron variant and climbing case count forced the university to announce that courses will be remote until January 31st, 2022. However, as of right now, we are still looking at a campus return at the end of January.

With these circumstances in mind, CUPE 3903 is asking members to fill out a survey emailed out to subscribers of the union’s newsletter to communicate how they feel about the winter return, and what we as a union can do about it.

If you have not subscribed to the union’s newsletter, or have not received the survey for any reason, email tfac2.cupe3903@gmail.com to get access to the survey.

Just Who Are York’s Senior Administrators Listening to? It’s Certainly Not the University Community

A damning news-report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) confirms that senior administrators are refusing to listen to anyone who is part of the university community –  students, staff or professors. What is happening is a crisis of governance at York University, where a senior body continually refuses to listen to the concerns of the community. It has become increasingly clear now: they will do whatever they want. They do not see democratic, participatory, decision making, as part of their medieval governance. This administrative staff, who make up a tiny  handful of senior administrators, are out of touch with democratic procedures, and how to govern responsibly with the community.
