Potential Education Workers Strike: Childcare Options

Edit: CUPE Education Workers reached a tentative deal with the Province on October 6th. The information below will be kept up for those wanting more information about emergency childcare options.

CUPE Education Workers are scheduled to walkout on Monday, October 7th unless an agreement is reached with the province this weekend. School boards across the GTA have announced that schools will close in the event of a strike. We wanted to remind members struggling with childcare that the Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre in the York University Student Centre can accept children up to seven years old for emergency care for full days or for blocks of four or five hours on individual days. With 48-hours’ advance notice, fees are $90 per day, and $38/$55 for four- and five-hour blocks. With less than 48-hours’ notice (“emergency care”), fees are $150 per day and $75 for five-hour blocks. For details on fees and for other information, visit https://yorkuchildcare.ca/, write to yorkuchildcare@gmail.com, or call (416) 736-5959 during regular business hours.
