On Monday, December 14th, the CUPE 3903 Bargaining Team met with the Employer. The Bargaining Team would like to thank members in the room for attending as observers, as per our open bargaining practice.

The following items were discussed at the bargaining meeting.

Employer Clarification

The Employer began by clarifying that their comments about the CUPE 3903 extension framework, made at the last meeting on December 9th, should not be construed as meaning that they do not consider CUPE 3903’s counter proposal to be an extension framework. Instead, they conveyed that their comments were simply an observation that the CUPE 3903 extension framework is longer than what the Employer had proposed, and that they are pleased that both the Employer and CUPE 3903 are seeking a more focused bargaining process in the same spirit.

Closed Captioning

We would like to apologize to the membership for not having closed captioning available at this meeting. We were still in the process of clarifying responsibilities around this with the Employer, specifically relating to responsibility for booking. Now that this is clarified, we anticipate having closed captioning at all bargaining meetings moving forward.

The CUPE 3903 Bargaining Team presented the Proposal Framework to the Employer at the December 9th bargaining meeting. This is a framework of proposals to extend the Unit 1, 2 and 3 Collective Agreements. This document can be found in Bargaining Documents here.

The following four bargaining meetings have been scheduled with the Employer for December. All members are welcome to attend to observe.

Nominations are open for the newly created Nursing Postings Officer; there is one vacancy. Interested members can nominate themselves by emailing Stacey Berquist, VP Unit 1, by December 22nd.

York has finally released the Extended Health Benefit funds; the committee will meet this week to adjudicate. However, now, due to the office administrator being away, funds won’t be deposited until mid-January, in 2021. The EHB committee apologizes for the delay and understands that members are undergoing a lot of hardship and depend on these funds.

The vacancy for a Unit 2 Bargaining Team member has been acclaimed.

Thanks to Stephanie Latella for putting her name forward! Stephanie will be one of the three members of the Unit 2 Bargaining Team.

The December 4th GMM will take place from 11am–2pm on Zoom.
