We will be beginning a strike action February 26th, from 11 am – 3 with our WeAreYork – Strike Rally! Meet outside of the York University subway station.
There will be a picket pay sign-up table for members, and the ability to meet your Picket Captain and find your picket line. You will be paid picket pay for this event, but to do so you must sign up for picket pay – you can also do this online.
Strikes are struggles, they are a fight for the wages and collective agreements we deserve. Knowing this, we want to start the strike off in the spirit of community and solidarity.
We are humbled to announce that many workers and labour leaders from across the labour movement will be speaking in solidarity with us! Including CUPE 1356 (York University Campus Services and Business Operations), CUPE 3902 (UofT), CUPE 3906 (McMaster), CUPE 2 (TTC), May Day Committee, YFS, OPSEU 542, Fred Hahn (President of CUPE Ontario), Laura Walton (President of Ontario Federation of Labour), and many more! We’re extremely appreciative of the strong solidarity.
During the rally there will be music, food and art stations for sign making. This is a community-oriented event and family friendly! Safety and accessibility are priorities and there will be areas for rest and volunteers available to help in any situation.
