CUPE 3903 has been made aware of a town hall for undergraduate students in the School of Nursing where undergrads in NURS4527 were pressured to continue clinical placements throughout April. The hosts also stated that new CCDs would be hired to do this work “outside the union”. This is a form of union-busting via “scabbing”, or hiring replacement workers to undermine a strike by university workers fighting for lower class sizes, living wages, and better job security. Teaching or attending these courses undermines our bargaining position, the strike as a whole, and the future good quality education at YorkU. We need to remain united in this struggle otherwise the quality of learning and working conditions will continue to get worse after the strike. Nurses deserve better!
