As we enter the ninth week of the strike, it is vital that our union members be cognizant of how CUPE 3903 protects them in regard to childcare.
Stated in Section 7 of the CUPE 3903 Strike Policy:
“The Strike Committee shall arrange child care for members doing picket or alternated duties. This may include reimbursement of any childcare expenses incurred due to members’ performance of picket or alternate duties.”
It is important to note that:
- Through this funding, CUPE will pay per member rather than per child. For example, a member who has one child and a member who has more than one child will each get the same amount of money.
- To receive this funding, we ask for proof of child. You can provide a birth certificate, passport or adoption letter for proof
- It is important to note that CUPE does not require any receipts. Fundamentally, the fund is to assist members to be able to cover childcare cost during the labour dispute
Due date for the application is Friday May 4. If you would like to take advantage of this fund or if you have any questions, please email cupe3903childcare@gmail.com
