Remediation Resistance: Organizing + Art Build

90% of salary that would have been earned completing the Winter Term should mean exactly that.

Even though the Memoranda of Settlement and the Employer’s own remediation FAQ states that remediation pay is 90% of what “would have been earned completing the Winter Term”, York has been choosing to pay out 90% of entire full contracts – at the expense of members’ pay cheques! We REJECT the Employer’s misinterpretation of our remediation agreement and we need to push back to get the money expected for the work you completed!

Meet up with some of your lead stewards and fellow members outside Kaneff to discuss ongoing remediation issues and make posters for future rallies! Come together and get organized!

When: June 21st, 12 PM – 1 PM
Where: Outside Kaneff Tower

Bring an umbrella for rain or shine. Please bring water to stay hydrated.

This week is HOT – Please be safe. Here are some sun and heat safety tips (sources linked below):

  • Cover up. When the UV Index is 3 or higher, protect your skin as much as possible. Wear light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat made from breathable fabric. When you buy sunglasses, make sure they provide protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Use the UV Index forecast. Tune in to local radio and TV stations or check online for the UV index forecast in your area. When the UV index is 3 or higher, wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen, even when it’s cloudy.
  • Stay hydrated and cool
    • Drink plenty of cool fluids, even if you don’t feel thirsty, and check in with children and seniors to make sure they are drinking regularly.
      • Avoid caffeine and alcohol because they can cause dehydration, which stops your body from controlling its temperature properly
    • Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day (typically between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.).
    • Dress for the heat and for your activity level:
      • Wear light, loose clothing to let air circulate and heat escape.
      • Always wear a hat and apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher before going outside.
    • Slow down your activities as it gets hotter. Move indoors and don’t work, exercise, or play outside for an extended period of time.
      • Take frequent breaks in a cool or shady area and use a buddy system if you need to be outside when it’s hot.
    • Check on your pets and animals frequently – make sure their needs for water and shade are met.
