This applies to those members teaching compressed courses, that began on or after November 1 2011, and end on or before February 28, 2012. The 1.5% special levy assessed on members during that period applied to two months of term 1, and two months of term 2, which means that it applied to 50% of gross earnings in each term. Those teaching compressed courses during this time frame will have been assessed on 100% of their earnings. We are therefore offering members in this circumstance to apply for a rebate of a portion of the special levy.
To apply:
1) After you have received the final pay for your compressed course, attach a photocopy of all pay stubs for the contract in question, as well as a copy of the contract, to an expense voucher form (available at the CUPE 3903 office or here as a PDF)
2) Complete the expense voucher form; under the column “Full Details of Expense”, write in “to refund overpayment of strike/defense special levy”. To calculate the refund amount, take the total amount of the special levy assessment on your income from the compressed course (75% of the total special levy amount), and claim 50% of that.
Example:
Total pay for compressed course: $6000
Special levy total $120
Portion related to strike fund (75%) $90
Amount of refund claim (50%) $45
3) At the bottom left hand corner of the Expense Voucher, note your mailing address. We
cannot accommodate cheque pick-ups; all cheques will be mailed.
Please allow up to one month for cheque processing.
