Bylaw amendments

Article 25: Amendments

(a) These bylaws are always subordinate to the CUPE National Constitution (including Appendix “B”) as it now exists or may be amended from time to time, and in the event of any conflict between these bylaws and the CUPE National Constitution, the latter shall govern. The National President has the sole authority to interpret the CUPE National Constitution.

(b) These bylaws will not be amended, added to, or suspended except upon a two-thirds majority vote of those present and voting at a regular or special membership meeting following seven days’ notice at a previous meeting or at least sixty days’ written notice.

(c) No change in these bylaws will be valid and take effect until approved by the National President of CUPE. The validity will date from the letter of approval of the National President.

Notice for the following bylaw amendments were given at the June 17, 2014 GMM:

1) Article 10: Committees (Professional Development Committee)

Be it resolved that: The honorarium for the Coordinator of the Professional Development Fund will be increased from $500 per funding cycle (totalling $1,500 per year) at an estimated time of 25 hours per cycle to $750 per funding cycle (totalling $2,250 per year) at an estimated time of 40 hours per cycle.

Be it further resolved that: The honorarium for the two (2) members of the Professional Development Fund committee will be increased from $50 per session and a total of $250 per year to $150 per session and a total of $750 per year. This would increase in total the honoraria for the PDF committee from $2,000 per year to $3,750 per year.

2) Article 15: Membership Meetings

Be it resolved that: 15 (b) (i) read: “The membership may amend or change the agenda at a GMM.”

3) Article 17: Bargaining

Be it resolved that: Bargaining, Honoraria and Per Diems, be amended in the following manner: a) Each bargaining team member receive an honorarium of $400 a month. Honoraria shall not be paid during a strike period.
