Report Back: Tenth Bargaining Meeting with the Employer on January 29th (1pm)

On Friday January 29th, the CUPE 3903 Bargaining Team met with the Employer. The Bargaining Team would like to thank members in the room for attending as observers, as per our open bargaining practice.

During our January 28th bargaining meeting, we responded to the Employer’s proposal framework from January 22, 2021. Read the Bargaining Team’s statement here. Given the Employer’s lack of engagement with the concrete proposals in our December 14, 2020 extension framework, we proposed to involve mediator Chris Albertyn to mediate the conversation around job security, starting with the Union’s Albertyn Appointments proposal, and possibly to include other Unit 2 job security proposals.

In this meeting, the Employer agreed to two weekend mediation sessions with Chris Albertyn.  The Bargaining Team reiterated the need for mediation to fall in line with our open and coordinated bargaining principles, with the entire Bargaining Team and our membership present. We again emphasized the importance of the relationship between job security and equity. We also noted that with the weekend mediation proceeding space is opened up at the bargaining table to meaningfully engage with the rest of our proposals, including those that address urgent Nursing and Unit 3 issues. To that end, we provided the Employer with our availability for additional dates in February, as well as dates for March.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:37pm.
