CUPE 3903 AGM Postponed

Due to increasing concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 the Executive of CUPE 3903 have made the difficult decision to postpone the Annual General Meeting. We will update members with further information, including how elections will be handled, as soon as we can.

We know members have many questions about York’s response to COVID-19 and how best to protect their own health and reduce the risk of viral spread. Today (Thursday March 11th) members of the Executive and staff from CUPE 3903 met with the employer. A full summary of the meeting will be posted to the website soon.

When asked what would trigger the university to suspend classes, the employer said that it would take a directive from the Public Health Agency, and that the first priority is to complete the term without delay. Presently, members are asked to move course material online, submit existing grades, and not cancel in person classes. On Friday, March 13th, the employer changed course and announced classes will be moving online as of the following Monday. At this time it is unclear what this will look like. We will update the membership as information becomes available.

We would like to remind members that you have the right to refuse unsafe work. If you have cause to believe that holding your class in person constitutes a risk to your health and safety, please contact the union and we will advocate for you with the department.
