Nominations Open for the Executive Committee and Bargaining Team (Units 1, 2 & 3)

Nominations for the Executive Committee and Bargaining Team (Units 1, 2 & 3) open at noon on February 14th. Nominations will be accepted until March 2nd. Two weeks of campaigning will follow the nomination period. Voting will begin at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will take place on March 16th (11am – 2pm in the Conference Centre of the Second Student Centre) and will continue for five days.

Executive Committee

All members in good standing are encouraged to run for executive positions. For a full description of the responsibilities of the executive committee, see articles 8 and 9 of the CUPE 3903 bylaws. For Vice-Presidents and Chief Stewards the positions are unit-specific: candidates must be members in good standing of that unit. All other positions are open to all four units.

Please note that the TFAC Co-Chairs will be elected through a separate process.

Bargaining Team

The bargaining team is composed of three members each for Units 1, 2, and 3. Our contracts expire on August 31, 2020 and it is important to get the bargaining team elected early so that they can be active participants in the development of bargaining proposals. Candidates for bargaining team positions must be members in good standing of that unit.

Wondering what being on the Bargaining Team is like and why you should run? You can read about being on the BT from someone who has served twice here.

Nominations

Candidates must fill out a nomination form, available at the CUPE 3903 Office (143 Atkinson). Nominations must be brought to the union office during the nominations period. Each nominee must also record their nomination by signing the register that is to be publicly displayed next to the nomination box.

Nomination forms must be completed in accordance with Article 14.l of our bylaws:

(b) Nomination for any position must be signed by the nominee and by two additional members in good standing and addressed to the election officers. Nominations must be brought to the union office during the nominations period. Each nominee must also record his/her nomination by signing the register that is to be publicly displayed next to the nomination box.

(c) Only members in good standing can be nominated and no member may sign more than one (1) nomination for his/her own candidacy in the same nomination and election period.

(d) If at the end of the nomination period only one (1) candidate is nominated, the executive, on the advice of the elections officers, shall declare the position filled by acclamation.

Please note, nomination forms for unit-specific positions (namely Chief Stewards, Vice-Presidents and Bargaining Team) must be signed by two members of that unit.
