CUPE 3903 Internal Sexual Violence Draft Policy Available

At the October GMM notice was given for the introduction to the bylaws of an Internal Sexual Violence Policy. This will be a bylaw amendment, and should come to a vote at a Special General Membership Meeting on November 15th. The full text of the policy being put forward and more information can be found below.

All incidences of sexual violence are serious issues that warrant action. CUPE 3903 is committed to developing an intersectional and survivor-centric policy on sexual violence in union spaces. Furthermore, in 2017, CUPE Ontario passed a motion requiring CUPE locals develop and implement a local-specific internal policy that would address sexual assault and sexual violence between members in union spaces without involving law enforcement should the survivor choose not to report to the police.

Therefore, a TFAC subcommittee and members of the Executive Committee have been working on an Internal Sexual Violence Policy. The draft Policy is now ready to be brought forward and can be found here (pdf).

The Executive Committee has called a Special General Membership Meeting (SGMM) to discuss and vote on the introduction to the bylaws of a CUPE 3903 Internal Sexual Violence Policy. All members are encouraged to attend this SGMM. Lunch will be provided. When: November 15th, 11 am – 2 pm; Where: First Student Centre (FSC) 313.

The SGMM will be split into three parts, each given roughly an hour on the agenda:

  • Presentation of the policy,
  • Open discussion (no motions will be allowed during this time),
  • Motions from the floor and opening of the vote.
