(1) Following Marathon Mediation, York University Refuses to Reach Settlement

On Saturday June 2, and into the early morning hours of Sunday June 3, the CUPE 3903 bargaining team passed several proposals to the employer through experienced mediator Kevin Burkett. The union had previously offered to move significant items to arbitration, including every item that the employer had identified as barriers to settlement. The offer made in mediation moved the union’s position to its very bare bones. Yet, the employer refused to end the strike, now 13 weeks old.

Read the full report for more information.

(2) Reminder: Regular Funds Frozen During Strike

All regular funds are frozen, as they are part of the operating budget rather than the strike fund. There would usually be a number of deadlines coming up (Professional Development Fund, Extended Health Benefits Fund, Childcare Fund, etc.). All deadlines are extended until after the conclusion of the strike. Please hang on to your applications until then.

(3) Invitation to Comment on CUPE 3903 Childcare

As the strike continues, many members would like to participate in picketing, but find they need child care support. We have been thinking about finding ways to accommodating the needs of members who are parents, and have come up with a plan to offer child care and activities for kids at the Main Gate picket line. Please fill out the survey on child care and let us know what you think!

(4) Pet Food Donations Available at HQ

Earlier last week CUPE 3903 received a generous donation of both cat food and dog food that can be distributed to members if they are in need of pet food. The pet food is available for pick up at Strike Headquarters during regular hours. We would like to thank Rhonda Doucette for thinking of our furry friends and providing such a thoughtful donation.
