(1) Victoria Day Strike Duties

There is no obligation for members to participate in strike duties on Monday May 21, which is a holiday. However, for those who want or need a shift in order to fulfill their picketing hours, there will be a single shift at Main Gate from 10 am to 2 pm. If you are on the 8th Line and have questions about strike duties over the holiday, please contact your picket captain.

(2) GMM Election Results

Two elections took place at the May 17 General Membership Meeting: Unit 2 List Moderator, and Unit 1 Bargaining Team member.

Keith O’Regan was acclaimed as Unit 2 List Moderator.

Erin Grosjean was elected to the Unit 1 Bargaining Team.

(3) Statement from the Unit 3 Bargaining Team

On May 15, York University’s lawyer, Simon Mortimer, responded to CUPE 3903’s May 14 letter in which the union’s bargaining team outlined how the two parties are not, in fact, far apart. The Unit 3 Bargaining Team has provided a statement outlining their objections to the university’s position specifically as pertains to Unit 3.

Read the statement here.

(4) Missing Person: Zabia Afzal

(8) Difficult Conversations Workshop: May 23

Having Difficult Conversations
Wednesday, May 23
11:30 am – 1:30 pm
OISE room 2198
252 Bloor St W

This workshop is designed for folks who either have had a challenging conversation which didn’t go as well as they wanted it to, or have been avoiding that difficult conversation out of concern for what might happen if the conversation doesn’t go well, or have had to respond to a difficult conversation in a way that didn’t make them feel satisfied.

We’ll explore topics such as truth assumptions, multiplicities of stories, the entanglement of intentions and impacts, and the ways in which emotions and identities play out in every difficult conversation.

Each session will be capped at 20 people because this is a workshop format and there needs to be enough room for people to ask questions and participate. With that in mind, please let Sara know which sessions you are planning to attend at sarashamdani@gmail.com.

(9) Executive Committee Meeting: May 23

Executive Committee
Wednesday, May 23
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Following the strike policy, Strike SGMMs are held weekly for the duration of the strike. The agenda will include reports from the Executive, Treasurer, Bargaining Team, Strike Committee, as well as time for motions from the floor and voting on motions for which notice has been given at previous meetings.

See the tentative agenda here.
