(1) Membership Reaffirms Need for Negotiated Contract

At the May 9 General Membership Meeting, the membership reaffirmed its commitment to a negotiated settlement. A decision was also made to empower the bargaining team to exercise flexibility in modifying the proposal package.

Following the failure of back-to-work legislation, the bargaining team is ready to bargain, empowered by the decisions made at the GMM.

(2) Information About Summer Internships

The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) has agreed to waive the financial block for members who need to enroll in internships and field experience for course credit, as long as the debt is from the summer semester. Members in this situation should contact FGS Financial Officer Juan Arangote (fgsflo@yorku.ca). This is especially relevant for international student members who may experience a block because they are not receiving the International Tuition Offset (ITO).

Find this and more information regarding striking in the summer term by reading the FAQ on Summer.

(3) Vacancy on the Unit 1 Bargaining Team

Lina Nasr has resigned from the Unit 1 bargaining team.

In the exceptional circumstances of the strike, and based on the past practice where a member of the Unit 3 Bargaining Team was elected at a Strike Special General Membership Meeting in 2015, an election will be held at the May 17 SGMM.

Member of the bargaining team is a unit-specific position; this means that only members of Unit 1 may run for the position. To nominate yourself, email cupe3903vpu1@gmail.com by 5 pm on May 16, 2018.

(4) Vacancy: Unit 2 List Moderator

There is currently a vacancy to be filled for Unit 2 List Moderator. Moderators must read all posts to the listserv at least once a day and enforce the List Guidelines (Appendix F of the CUPE 3903 Bylaws). This position is open to members of Unit 2.

The nomination period is open until May 16 at 5 pm. To nominate yourself, email Julian at cupe3903vpu2@gmail.com. Contested positions will be elected at the May 17 Special General Membership Meeting.

(5) CUPE 3903 Hotline Hours

CUPE 3903 Members and members of the York University community seeking information can call the CUPE 3903 Hotline (select hours only).

(7) TFAC Debrief Session: May 11

TFAC Debrief

This strike has impacted us all. This will be a space for TFAC members to freely and openly discuss our experiences and needs, and come together to support each other. It is scheduled over shift change to allow members to participate before and/or after shifts.

There will be TFAC members helping to facilitate discussion but there is no set agenda; members are welcome to come and go during this period. Snacks will be provided.

The Trans Feminist Action Caucus (TFAC) is an autonomous body of CUPE 3903 that consists of all women, trans, gender queer and gender variant members of the Local.
