A message to students & parents

York undergraduate students walk the picket line with striking CUPE 3903 members.

CUPE 3903 has now been on strike for one week.

Our hope was to get a new contract through the bargaining process, but York backed us into a corner. Now that we’re on strike, we’re still working hard to get a fair deal.

So why are we on strike?

We believe tuition fees are too high, not only for our members, but also for all students at York. One of our demands is to protect our members from tuition fee increases, which helps build the fight against all tuition fees.

We also believe that contract faculty deserve real job security. When your teachers have more time to prepare their courses, to hold regular office hours, and to give you the attention you deserve, the quality of your education improves dramatically.

These are reasonable demands. Our teaching conditions are your learning conditions, and all of us are trying to create a better York. Learn more about the strike by reading these FAQs.

We are grateful for the support that students have shown us on the picket lines. The more support we have from students, the sooner we can get a fair deal – and end the strike.
