Letter of solidarity with people in Gaza – July 2014

We, the Executive Committee of CUPE 3903, affirm our solidarity with the occupied Palestinian people and condemn the Israeli government’s military raids, mass arrests and detention of Palestinians in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Arab villages within the country over the past month. We also condemn in the strongest terms the Israeli government’s ongoing killing and collective punishment of civilians in the Gaza Strip, which have included indiscriminate bombings of civilian homes, universities, hospitals and a rehabilitation centre – actions that are tantamount to war crimes.

We demand that the Israeli government immediately halt its brutal actions and be held accountable to its multiple violations of international law.

We fully support the statement of Gazan civil societies released on July 12, 2014, that urges the implementation of boycott, divestment and sanctions on Israel, as called for by the overwhelming majority of Palestinian civil society organizations in 2005. We press the Canadian government to demand that Israel cease its brutal aggression on the Gazan population. We also call on the Canadian Labour Congress, CUPE Ontario and all other trade union organizations to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. A solidarity statement by CUPE National is available here.

In solidarity,
The CUPE 3903 Executive Committee
